Just wanted to say how pleased we are with our lovely Mare Lottie (Special D x Linards) purchased from HFD in February 2010 as a three year old. She has a fantastic trainable temperament and is a pleasure to own. We have just started to make our competition debut and have had fantastic feedback from judges. I am planning to take things steady this year as it will be my first attempt on the affiliated circuit so need to get to grips with my nerves as well as Lottie's. But am hoping to contend the five year old classes with her next year, she is super. Thank you for finding me such a talented little mare. She is my dream horse.

A big thank you to Brian & Angela for finding me my dream horse twice. Blossom (x Kingston) One of the sweetest most honest horses I have ever met, an absolute pleasure to own, ride and made me smile daily. This 4 year old gave me confidence taught me to ride with the help of Angela, after finding me my dream horse the first time I called upon Brian and Angela's expert eye for talented young horses to find me another one. I never expected to be able to find another horse with the same temperament as Blossom, can someone get so lucky twice? the answer is yes Don Diago H (x Metall). Thank you for finding me to this fantastic little chap he is everything more, an absolute dream to handle ride, with honesty beyond his years paces to die for.

He is recently backed and broken by HFD (who have kindly allowed me to help) I have now taken over the training and all is going well.

With the help and training from Angela I am certain this little horse will go far.

Tributes

Jemma Blackshaw & Rio - Here is our story

I moved to Holden Fold Dressage in July 2010 as a livery this was the best move I made. I was finding it hard work on a d.i.y yard as well as having a full time job, so now being on full livery and being somewhere you know cares for your horse as much and well as you do gives you great peace of mind.

A few weeks after moving on to the yard my 4 year old mare was being very difficult in her work as we just started the canter work and she was objecting. She knocked my confidence and I did not want to ride her anymore so I explained to Angela what was going on and she really helped me out by letting her groom ride her through it all. Now she is coming on great in her work we took her out for her first test a few weeks ago and she won with a great score of 75.5 % also I am back on board too J  Through the winter months she pulled a tendon and I did not know how long she would be out of work for, so I decided to put her in foal to mooiman hfd for 2012. ( as it is happens she wasnt out of work for very long). The AI service I received from hfd was second to none Brian Crane (Stud Manager) was really patient with my mare as she is not one to just stand there, he got her in foal at the first attempt. So now I cant wait till next year when my little Rio/Mooiman hfd foal arrives.

A big thank you to Angela & Brian Crane and everyone at HFD for all the help and support they give me.

Angela and Brian provide a service second to none.

I first used the stud in 2005 when I bred Peri, my then 16yo PSG mare, to Mooiman. This was to be a ‘one-off’ to hopefully give me a future dressage horse who was also from my favourite mare. As there was a dearth of repro vets in my area I chose to send the mare to Holdenfold to be covered and to my delight she took first time. Even after she came home they supported me through the process of dealing with the KWPN paperwork. On a cold spring morning on May 2nd 2006, 14 days ‘late’ , a beautiful little chestnut filly arrived and was named Burnside Lucky Belle. Yet again Angela and Brian helped me through the process of the registration and what to do for the keuring. A successful visit to the KWPN keuring at Myerscough followed on with Belle taking reserve champion dressage filly foal and third placed foal out of all the foals presented. As this was supposed to be my one and only foray into breeding once Belle was weaned Peri came back into work and competition, finally retiring from active competition duties at 19yo. That winter she injured a shoulder and although recovered had some stiffness. I decided to put her back in foal to Mooiman with the plan to sell the foal this time so in 2009 at the ripe age of 20yo she arrived back at Holdenfold. Again she was looked after meticulously and took to her second cover and home she came again. Due to work commitments I was unable to foal the mare at home this time, plus I wished to put her back in foal if everything went well so in early April she returned to Holdenfold to live with the mare band. Due date came and went, with Brian being convinced she couldn’t hold on any longer for quite some time. Finally 12 days late on May 19th 2010 a handsome bay colt arrived to be named Burnside Lucky Firefly. Peri had managed fine so she was covered straight back and again took to her second cover. Fly went on to score a High First Premium at his BEF Futurity evaluation. He was particularly complimented on the quality of his head-neck-shoulder connection and comment was made that he had outstanding self-carriage for such a young foal. Scored 9/10 for walk, 8.5/10 for trot, 17/20 for canter and general athleticism, 8.75 for attitude ‘curious, interested and intelligent’ Roll on 2011 and Brian had kindly agreed to take Peri to foal again, despite them officially not having room for outside mares to foal this year. Six days early on May 17th a stunning bay filly arrived, all seemed well and she was named Burnside Lucky Grace Then disaster struck, at 30 hours old she was noted not to be drinking well and had diarrhoea. The vet was called and the fight began to keep her alive. What it doesn’t say is how much her survival is down to their vigilance in noticing she was ill so quickly, or how they spent almost a week with little or no sleep while nursing her. Despite being so desperately tired they still found time to support me and keep me updated while I was tied to work over 150 miles away. Angela said “As long as she keeps fighting, we will keep going”. They even found time to feed and water me when I visited to give a hand where I could and checked I had made it home safely on my late night drives back to the NE of England. Finally I arrived on 5th June to bring the two girls home and almost 4 hours later was able to text Brian and Angela to say we were home safely. Grace was supposed to be for sale but after all we have been through I can’t bear to part with her – it doesn’t help that she is the double of her Mum but with Daddy Moo’s fabulous paces. Angela was no help either when she told me she’s the best of the three - I had to keep her after that! Have a look through the progeny photos for some pics of the gang. The original foal, Belle, is now backed and going well under saddle and proving to have inherited the best from both of her parents.

Mooiman is conspicuous through a loose shoulder and fantastic fore leg action, with much strength from the hindquarters. A striking appearance he himself demonstrates.
